Reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira isn’t taking any guff from Jamahal Hill following their UFC 300 clash in April.
The main event scrap that pitted the current and former 205-pound champions wasn’t quite the back-and-forth brawl that some had predicted, with Brazil’s Pereira scoring a knockout victory a little more than three minutes into the first round.
The fight-ending sequence, which came moments after Pereira dismissed an interjection from referee Herb Dean after what seemed to be an accidental low blow from Hill, was bookended by the champion seemingly posing above the defeated fighter.
In a recent interview, Hill stated that he was unhappy with Pereira’s actions post-fight — particularly after he said he showed respect to Pereira’s trainer (and former Hill opponent) Glover Teixeira.
“To be honest, I don’t get why he’s doing this so late,” Pereira told Fox Sports Australia, as noted by MMA Junkie, of the American’s reaction several weeks after their April 13 fight. “It’s been almost two months. People usually do that right away, but maybe he just woke up from the knockout.”
Suggesting (though not elaborating) that he felt disrespected by Hill in the lead-up to the fight, Pereira added: “You reap what you sow.
“It’s kind of like you harvest what you seed. During Glover’s fight, he was respectful. Glover, he got respect at the end. With us, he was a bit more disrespectful — so he got what he put on.”
Hill will get a chance to return to winning ways later this month at UFC 303 when he takes on the dangerous NZ kickboxer, Carlos Ulberg.
