Earlier this year, we finally – finally – got confirmation of a long-awaited mainline successor to the wildly popular racing sim Assetto Corsa, a full decade after the original launched. Beyond confirmation that it would be titled Assetto Corsa Evo rather than the expected Assetto Corsa 2, things have been fairly quiet since then.
That’s just changed, though, with the arrival of the game’s official Steam page, which confirms a number of featured cars via some utterly gorgeous screenshots. As expected, it moves away from the focus on GT racing found in the spinoff title, and official SRO GT World Challenge game, Assetto Corsa Competizione.
Instead, there’s a much heavier focus on road cars, with machinery visible in the screenshots ranging from the classic Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint through ’80s and ’90s fare like the Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo II, up to ultra-modern stuff like the Alpine A110 R.
There are even a couple of concepts in the form of the Hyundai N Vision 74 and ‘Beta’ version of the new Alpine A290. Meanwhile, the only pure racing car confirmed so far is the Porsche 911 GT3 R.
What’s perhaps most notable, though, is how stunning everything looks in these images, with all the cars rendered with exacting attention to detail and an incredible lighting model.
We also get glimpses of a few tracks, complete with some very impressive-looking weather effects. Confirmed so far are Brands Hatch, Imola, and – the one that’ll matter most to a lot of people – the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Finally, the arrival of the Steam page confirms that AC Evo is still on course for a 2024 launch and, via the minimum system requirements, that it’ll support various VR headsets. While we still don’t have a firm date, then, we should be getting our hands on the much-anticipated title within the next six months.
