The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $6 million with free agent offensive lineman Connor Williams, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who provided more information.

Williams has played six NFL seasons. His first four were with the Dallas Cowboys, who selected the ex-Texas star with a second-round draft pick in 2018. Williams served as the team’s left guard.

His last two were with the Miami Dolphins, where he was the team’s center. A torn ACL in his left knee suffered against the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 11, 2023 cut his season short. He ended the year as Pro Football Focus’ No. 2 ranked center.

Per Over the Cap, Seattle had $10,050,521 in cap space prior to the Williams move.

While it’s unclear at this time what Williams’ cap number looks like, it’s safe to assume that it will be at least $3 million due to his guaranteed money, giving the Seahawks $7,050,521 in cap space remaining in 2024.

Williams suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during the 2019 season, but he returned in 2020 and started all 16 games.

And now it appears he could do the same in 2024, per his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, on the Joe Rose Radio Show.

“He’s healthy. He’s going to be able to play in the first game,” Rosenhaus said on Monday (h/t Scott Salomon of Miami Dolphins on SI). “It is the most amazing recovery I have ever seen in my career.”

This is obviously a great addition for the Seahawks, who get one of the game’s top centers in both the run and pass games.

Connor Williams, among centers in 2023 with 240+ snaps, per PFF:

– Run Blocking #1
– Pass Protection #9
– Overall #2

I would say that’s pretty good.

This would be a game changer for the Seahawks offensive line. Connor Williams is a Top 5 center in the league… *when healthy*.

That’s the only concern, but the word is that he is ready to go Week 1.

It’s also a chance for Williams to improve a position that has been a trouble spot for Seattle, as ESPN’s Brady Henderson noted.

My view of the Connor Williams signing: Seattle has cycled through centers for most of the last decade and couldn’t afford to be below average there again, especially with the other OL question marks. Williams has a chance to be the best player they’ve had at that spot in a while

Ultimately, it’s a great pickup for the Seahawks at a very reasonable price tag as the team looks to start a new era under head coach Mike Macdonald on the right foot.
