Pokémon Unite is launching a brand new mode in early 2025, with players racing to score 500 points before the other team—and veterans will be all too familiar with the battleground on which they’ll take on opponents.
The mode is a frantic, more action-packed take on the Unite formula that’ll excite players who only care about kills and carnage over the usual MOBA gameplay style. It’s being advertised as a casual battle format, but if the trailer is anything to go by, it’s anything but casual. Players will also be making a return to Remoat Stadium, with the classic map receiving a bit of a facelift for the new mode.
While it might sound like a simple mode at first, many features are in play to make it as entertaining as possible. For starters, as you reach specific point barriers like 50, 100, etc., you can choose from random additional effects for your Pokémon, with other team members and opponents able to do the same, making every game different.
Some of these effects include the ability to get EXP to level up fast, a way to instantly level up the next time you score a goal, and make it so you can carry double points (100 instead of 50) for the rest of the match. There is also no time limit in this game mode, so the only way for the chaos to stop is to score those big points.
It offers a unique change of pace to the usual playstyle Unite has. Most games revolve around holding out for a few minutes to fight over the Zapdos to win the game, so a mode where you can just go all in and fight to your heart’s content is sure to appeal to older and newer players of the series.
The new 500-point mode also sees the return of Remoat Stadium with some added changes, including differences in berries, scoring, and more. Details on the mode are still a bit sketchy, with more information coming in the future.
