When was the last time you played hide and seek? Unless you have kids, we’ll presume ‘quite a long time ago’. Well, better dust off those skills – you’ll soon be able to play the childhood classic in an unexpected way.
Set to arrive as a free update for Forza Horizon 5 on 10 September, ‘Hide and Seek’ is exactly as it sounds. You’re either going into hiding and trying to reach a safe zone without being found, or you’re on the hunt for those in cover.
Sounds pretty basic, and quite honestly with some committed friends, plus a bit of organisation and discipline you could probably do that in the game anyway. There’s a little more to it than that, though.
If you’re on the team of hiders, you’ll have four minutes to remain undercover – be that finding a secluded spot or hiding in plain sight among regular traffic. Once that phase is up, and if you haven’t been caught, a randomly spawned ‘End Zone’ appears which you’ll need to make a dash for.
Those seeking will have a ‘detection meter’ which you’ll need to fill by following and finding hiders to win the game.
There are a few power-ups to spice things up, too. Chasers can use a radar which gives an approximate location for those in hiding, while using a ping once you’ve found someone locks onto a target and shows them on the map to the rest of your team for 20 seconds.
To counteract that, hiders will have a ‘Chase Breaker’, which forces seekers to brake and deactivate any active radar or ping in use for 20 seconds. You’ll also be ghosted, allowing you to pass through smashable objects. All of them have a cooldown period, which should keep things interesting.
There are no major prizes at stake, rather you’ll get some bonus XP and some badges you can unlock. Some Xbox Achievements will also be added in a separate update.
