In fact, ahead of the marathon holiday cooking season, it’s a good idea to replace some of these items, like your worn out storage containers or your dull paring knife. Your Thanksgiving prep will go a lot more smoothly when you’re peeling potatoes with a fresh, sharp Y-peeler.
And if you’re already thinking about holiday shopping, this is your best chance to snag some small kitchen essentials (hello, stocking stuffers) at some of the lowest prices of the year—so on Black Friday you can eat Thanksgiving leftovers and play games with family, rather than frantically hunting for deals online.
Of course, Amazon Prime Day (the October version) doesn’t officially start until October 8. But we’re providing early coverage of kitchen deals, because we’re already seeing a lot of great stuff on sale. If you’re willing to spend a bit more on the best kitchen gear, be sure to check out our full list of the best Amazon Prime Day deals—we’ve got early favorite deals listed there, too. But right now we recommend filling your cart with a few of these great deals under $25.

You might be thinking “but, wait…didn’t we just have Prime Day?” That was July Prime Day, but this is October Prime Day—better known as Amazon Prime Big Deals Days. In other words, a lot of those sales you saw this summer are coming back for you to shop from Tuesday, October 8, to Wednesday, October 9. While you don’t need a coupon or anything to access all the deals during this two-day sales event, you do need to be a Prime Member. There’s still time to sign up for a free 30-day trial, just make sure you’re all signed in to your new account once you start shopping.

Even at their lowest prices of the year thanks to Prime Day Deals, most major kitchen appliances are still going to cost more than $25, but there are a few small but mighty gadgets that you can get for less. A meat thermometer is nonnegotiable if you live in an omnivorous household (or even if you don’t! Use it to bake bread and cakes with precision!), and one of our favorites is currently on sale for just $15. We recommend getting a spare to keep in your luggage for Airbnb grilling emergencies. And no matter what you like to cook, you absolutely need a kitchen scale, so get this one from KitchenAid while it’s available for under $30.

Stock up on packs of the trendy probiotic soda Poppi and some favorite favorite protein bars, without even having to make a trip to Costco. You can also get a deal on some salty, crunchy edamame bean snacks that we love purely for their flavor, but the fact that they’re packed with protein doesn’t hurt anything, either. And get one of our all-time favorite chili crisps for 10% off—this sauce stands out for its powerful umami, which comes from fermented black beans, mushroom powder, and seaweed. It also has a smoky-tingly heat, from combined chiles and Sichuan peppers.

A lot of the tech deals happening this Prime Big Deal Days sales event—like a Samsung TV, iPhone, Kindle, or Apple laptop—are likely well above the $25 price range. But there are a few smaller and lower price point items that are marked down and can prove useful in your kitchen. A wi-fi-connected, bluetooth-enabled smart speaker like an Echo Dot or Echo Pop (both of which are over 50% off) can come in handy when you want to play music while cooking or entertaining. Opt for something wireless if you want a bit of mobility. Alternatively, a pair of bluetooth-enabled headphones can be useful when you want to go hands free and talk on the phone while you’re whipping up dinner.
