The New York Jets fell to 2-4 with their third straight loss Monday.

So it was apparently time for a reunion.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the Jets acquired wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders. ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted New York gave up a conditional third-round pick that can become a second-rounder.

Social media naturally had plenty of reactions to the move that will pair Adams with Aaron Rodgers again after they previously played together for the Green Bay Packers:

The Jets trading for Davante Adams is a big deal because if they keep losing, Aaron Rodgers is quickly running out of people to blame it on.

After Davante Adams left the Packers, I talked to Aaron Rodgers about replacing him and he said Adams was the primary receiver on *80 percent* of their plays the last year they were together. Will be curious how this develops now a few years later. pic.twitter.com/mFQYu34trq

My biggest concern for Davante Adams-

How is he gonna find a house in New Jersey with a Taco Bell inside?

Can’t be many listings like that.

Adams missed the previous three games for the Raiders because of a hamstring injury, but his long-term status with the team hovered over the situation considering he told Las Vegas he wanted to be traded.

From the AFC West team’s perspective, this means it no longer has to worry about the financials that come with the wide receiver.

Schefter reported the Raiders will not pay any of Adams’ remaining salary. That is all the more notable since he has a potential out in 2025 and is scheduled to make $35.6 million in base salary in 2025 and again in 2026.

It will now be up to the Jets to make any contract decisions with that deal, and it may depend on how he plays the rest of the season.

New York has not hesitated to make drastic moves at the start of this season having already fired head coach Robert Saleh. It lost its first game without the head coach Monday to fall to 2-4 overall and responded by adding one of the most notable wide receivers in the league.

Adams played the first eight seasons of his career with Rodgers on the Packers and established himself as a game-changing playmaker. He made five straight Pro Bowls during his tenure with the NFC North team and led the league in touchdown receptions (18) during the 2020 campaign.

He and Rodgers will now look to replicate that success with a Jets team that has no shortage of offensive weapons with Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall also on the roster.

That offensive group will have to make up some ground in the AFC playoff picture following the slow start, but the Adams and Rodgers combination has proven unstoppable in the past. It will need to be again if the Jets are going to be a true threat in the postseason.
