The New York Giants appear unlikely to make in-season front office changes during what appears to be another doomed season in Gotham, but the quarterback position might not be spared from sudden changes.
Head coach Brian Daboll was noncommittal about Daniel Jones‘ future as his starting quarterback when asked about the position on Monday, just 24 hours after a 20-17 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Germany that dropped the Giants to 2-8 on the season.
Daboll said that the team would evaluate everything as New York heads into its Week 11 bye.
“We’re gonna get started on this process here of going back and looking at everything you’d normally look at in a bye week,” Daboll said. “Schemes, situational stuff, technique. All of the things you do in a normal bye week.”
The Giants have now lost five consecutive games, and Jones has been a near-weekly topic of questions from the New York media. Up until Monday, Daboll had remained steadfast in his support for the beleaguered starter, who has thrown eight touchdowns to seven interceptions this season and holds just a 79.4 passer rating.
New York flirted with the idea of drafting a QB at No. 6 overall this past April (they instead drafted LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers), and veteran Drew Lock is in line to take over the starting role if Jones is benched.
Jones signed a four-year, $160 million extension in March 2023 after helping lead the Giants to a playoff berth in Daboll’s first season as head coach. Of Jones’ $30 million base salary for the 2025 season, $23 million is guaranteed for injury.
