Eddie Alvarez believes a new lightweight GOAT emerged at UFC 309.
The greatest of all time [GOAT] debate has been raging all year, with UFC boss Dana White telling anyone who will listen that Jon Jones is the best regardless of weight.
However, ‘The Underground King’ took Jones out of the equation when he narrowed his pick down to the lightweight division he once reigned over as UFC champion.
Eddie Alvarez believes one of UFC 309’s big winners is the 155lb GOAT, even though he has never fought for a world title, has lost 18 times, and is currently unranked.
Eddie Alvarez is a big Jim Miller fan
Jim Miller picked up a record-extending 27th UFC win on Saturday night.
The 41-year-old quickly submitted Damon Jackson, who seemed to retire post-fight, with a first-round guillotine choke at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Miller boasts the second-most finishes (19) and second-most submissions (13) in company history after making the trip to the UFC Octagon 45 times during his 57-fight career.
“My new lightweight GOAT is Jim Miller. I’m willing to argue with anyone,” Alvarez tweeted on Sunday.
The 40-year-old went on to poke fun at his long-time rival Michael Chandler.
Charles Oliveira survived a late scare to beat Chander for the second time at UFC 309.
Alvarez added: “And we will unfortunately not be seeing Chandler ‘At the Top’ …. We are officially rebranding to ‘I’ll see you at the ????????? Help me out here guys.”
Jim Miller rages about ‘Peanut the Squirrel’
While people were debating his position among the all-time great lightweight fighters, Jim Miller was more interested in talking about something totally different post-fight.
During his interview with Joe Rogan, Miller briefly mentioned ‘Peanut the Squirrel’, prompting speculation as to what he was referring to.
Peanut, New Yorker Mark Longo’s pet squirrel, was confiscated and euthanized by New York environmental officials due to rabies fears.
It became a hot-button topic in the United States ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election, fanning the flames of debate over government overreach.
“A disdain for what some of this has become. They raided a couple’s home, at gunpoint, so that means they’re willing to kill them…but the room for bad things to happen over a pet squirrel that has lived inside for the last seven years,” Miller said.
“That day, I’m sure there were kids in New York City that went to bed hungry, I’m sure there were people here that went to sleep on the streets, kids that were in really dangerous situations at home that weren’t helped and weren’t pulled from that…
“As a taxpayer, your work and your effort went into confiscating a f***ing squirrel? It’s just ridiculous, the amount of assets that were used. And it’s funny coming from a guy that eats squirrel!
“It’s not even about the pet, it’s the fact that I value human life more than pets. There could’ve been other things that were done with all that f***ing money.”
