Cowboys vs Bengals: When it rains, it pours for the Cincinnati this season

Bengals get even more bad injury news before Week 14 vs. Cowboys – Chris Roling, USA Today

It appears that Joe Burrow’s blindside won’t be blocked by his star left tackle on Monday.

The Cincinnati Bengals just can’t catch a break when it comes to the injury bug.

Adding to the misery of the late-season rash of injuries ahead of Week 14, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor told reporters on Thursday that offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. is doubtful for the game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Brown had missed a handful of games before Week 13, where he was clearly struggling wth an injury by the end of it.

With Brown out on Monday night, the Bengals could look to give Andrew Stueber a run at left tackle. Cody Ford just replaced Cordell Volson at left guard in a move that doesn’t sound like it will be reverted.

Still, the Bengals have the option at left tackle as they play out the rest of the year. They’ve already lost kicker Evan McPherson and linebacker Logan Wilson to injuries this week, too.

National Writer: Cincinnati Bengals Should Trade Ja’Marr Chase to Extend Super Bowl Window – James Rapien, Sports Illustrated

Moving one from one of your best players in their prime should never be the answer.

CINCINNATI — Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is having the best year of his career.

The 24-year-old is on pace to finish with 112 catches for 1,617 yards and 18 touchdowns this season.

Despite his success, the Bengals are 4-8. Should they consider trading Chase is hopes of re-tooling a Super Bowl caliber roster around Joe Burrow?

Matt Verderame of the MMQB made the case in a column he wrote on Thursday.

“By moving off Chase, the Bengals could acquire enough future cap space and draft picks to transform a roster riddled with issues,” Verderame wrote. ”Cincinnati would undoubtedly spark a bidding war by putting Chase on the block, driving up what many in league circles say would already be a historic price.”

Verderame compared it to the Chiefs’ decision to trade Tyreek Hill a few years ago.

Chase has one year left on his rookie contract (fifth-year option) and can sign an extension with the Bengals at anytime.

It’s a bold take, but that’s what happens when you’re 4-8. The Bengals aren’t going to trade Chase.

They’ll probably make him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL this offseason.

It’s also reasonable to think the Bengals need to explore outside the box ideas to improve the roster this offseason.

Joe Burrow Targets Unwanted Award After Announcing Plans to Make Bengals ‘Fun to Watch’ – Bhwya Sriya, EssentiallySports.com

Even after a rough season, Joe Burrow may come home with some historic hardware.

With just five games left in the season, Joe Burrow is eyeing for a couple of goals this time. One, being in the struggling phase with 4-8, the QB will try for the playoffs contention; and second, to get an award at the end. Uh, no, we aren’t talking about the Super Bowl here – though that remains his ultimate destination.

The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow recently appeared in the media, where the reporters asked him about his thoughts on – would the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award be meaningful for him. To which he quipped, “Very much so.” He continued further, “I’m not sure there’s ever been a two-time comeback player of the year. It’s not exactly an award that people want to be up for but, you know, I found myself in that position and so that one would mean a lot to me.

Joe Burrow tore a ligament in his wrist and underwent surgery last year. Due to this, he missed the final seven games of the season. But this year, as he came back, the Bengals’s quarterback is reportedly leading the NFL with 30 touchdown passes and 3,337 yards. Indeed, it’s a great comeback!

So, that means, Joe Burrow is on the verge of making history. If he takes home the Comeback Player of the Year award again, he’ll be the first player to win it twice with the same team. Moreover, with this, he can join Chad Pennington as the only quarterbacks to win it twice. His first win came in 2021, after leading the Bengals to the Super Bowl just a year after tearing his ACL.

However, this competition isn’t easy, as now he’s up against two other quarterbacks as well – Kirk Cousins, recovering from an Achilles injury, and Kyler Murray, coming back from an ACL tear. Cousins has also given a good performance this season, helping his new team to sit on first rank in the NFC South. On the other hand, Murray is on pace for a great rushing season, with 428 at present. So, could Burrow, after coming from wrist injury, make it two in a row? Well, it remains to be seen. Until then, Joe Burrow has another plan!
