Regardless of the rules or the ring, Olympic silver medalist and three-time UFC title challenger Yoel Romero is a lethal weapon waiting to be fired. The 47-year-old is coming off his first-round knockout win over Power Slap veteran Duane Crespo in last month’s debut of Dirty Boxing Championship, the new combat sports promotion led by BKFC star Mike Perry.
The debut show was held as a private event at an undisclosed location in Miami, just like Romero’s involvement in the heavyweight showdown was kept a secret until he unexpectedly showed up for the weigh-ins a day prior to the fight. Now, having secured his first win in the promotion, Romero is left craving for more action with the promotion.
Mike Perry, the man behind Dirty Boxing Championship, announced the creation of the promotion back in July when he was about to fight YouTube star Jake Paul in a boxing match. When it comes to the promotion itself, they mix the elegance of boxing with the brutality of elbows, superman punches, spinning back fists, 5-ounce gloves, and limited ground-and-pound.

Of course, it would end up being addictive for ‘The Soldier of God.’ “I will give it a 10+,” Romero said when asked about his thoughts about the event and his fight last month on the Overdogs Espanol podcast. “I will give it my… All my acceptance towards the organization. The audience was delighted, people wanted more.”
“Fantastic competition rules. It’s pure adrenaline. There’s not much intervention from the referees to stop the fight. I left wanting more fights. It’s like a taste of a good meal and, ‘It’s over already?’” Romero told Overdogs Espanol. Also, it appears that the 47-year-old had found an opponent already.

Perry’s new promotion has an executive team backing it, which consists of his longtime representatives at First Round Management, former Karate Combat executive Adam Kovacs, and Josh McLean of Kanpai Media. Following Romero’s main event fight win in Miami, the Dirty Boxing Championship seems to be teasing an exciting matchup between Mike Perry and Romero.

The promotion shared a clip on social media of the duo facing off, which has since created quite a buzz in the community. Interestingly, Romero has fallen short only once in his past four fights, with his only loss coming during Bellator’s light heavyweight title shot against Vadim Nemkov in June. Whereas, Perry is recovering from his loss to Jake Paul.
It appears that Yoel Romero and Mike Perry’s Dirty Boxing Championship is making quite the waves in the combat world. However, where and when the next action will begin is currently unknown. Do you think Romero should fight Perry?
