Eagles Injury Report: Saquon Barkley and Landon Dickerson among players listed with “rest” designations

The Philadelphia Eagles issued their first official injury report on Wednesday in advance of their Week 16 road game against the Washington Commanders.

Note that this report is an estimation because the team held a walkthrough in lieu of a normal practice.

The Eagles listed nine players under DID NOT PARTICIPATE: Saquon Barkley, Mekhi Becton, A.J. Brown, Sydney Brown, Landon Dickerson, Lane Johnson, Cam Jurgens, Jordan Mailata, and DeVonta Smith.

Barkley, Becton, A.J. Brown, Johnson, Jurgens, and Mailata were all listed with “rest” designations. They’ll be good to go on Sunday.

DeVonta was listed with a “back/rest” designation. Back injuries are never ideal but it seems like he’ll be able to play on Sunday.

Dickerson was listed with a “knee/rest” designation after getting banged up in Week 15 and missing the second half the Pittsburgh Steelers game. Seems like he’ll be able to play on Sunday. Good news.

Sydney Brown was listed under DNP due to the concussion he suffered in Week 15. He’ll miss Sunday’s game if he’s not cleared in time. We’ll see how he progresses over the next couple days. If Brown is out, the Eagles might opt to temporarily elevate Andre’ Sam from the practice squad again for more safety depth.

Whether he practices or not, this seems like a decent sign for Landon Dickerson (knee).

The Eagles listed one player under LIMITED PARTICIPATION: Bryce Huff.

The Eagles opened Huff’s 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve on Wednesday. Huff (No. 0) was seen wearing a cast on his left hand. The guess here is that he’s not ready to play on Sunday.

The Eagles listed two players under FULL PARTICIPATION: Jalen Hurts and Britain Covey.

Hurts is dealing with a broken finger on his non-throwing hand. It clearly didn’t prevent him from playing well in Week 15.

Covey fully participated in practice on Thursday and Friday last week but was ruled out of Sunday’s game. The Eagles seem to be playing it cautious with his neck injury. We’ll see if he’s able to return to the field this weekend.

WASHINGTON COMMANDERS INJURY REPORT (WEDNESDAY)

The Commanders listed three players under DNP: starting tight end Zach Ertz, starting right guard Sam Cosmi, and kicker Zane Gonzalez.

Ertz suffered a concussion in Week 15. He’s also listed with a rest designation since he usually misses Wednesday practices due to maintenance anyway. It remains to be seen if he’ll be cleared to play on Sunday. Ertz’s absence would be a significant loss for the Commanders’ offense; he ranks second on their team in targets (77), receptions (54), yards (526), first downs (30), and receiving touchdowns (4). Backup tight end John Bates has only seen 10 targets for seven receptions and 70 yards in 2024. In a sign that the Commanders seem unsure about Ertz’s availability, they signed former Eagles tight end Tyree Jackson to their practice squad earlier this week.

Cosmi missed Wednesday due to illness. He’ll probably be able to play.

Gonzalez missed practice due to personal reasons but he’s also been dealing with a left foot injury. If he’s not ready to play, the Commanders will temporarily elevate Greg Joseph from the practice squad again.

The Commanders listed eight players under LIMITED PARTICIPATION. Notably among them: starting defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, starting defensive tackle Daron Payne, starting safety Jeremy Chinn, starting wide receiver Terry McLaurin, starting linebacker Frankie Luvu, and starting edge rusher Clelin Ferrell.

Allen’s 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve was opened on Wednesday. It was previously thought that Allen might have to miss the season but apparently that’s not the case. There’s a chance Allen is ready to play this weekend but it sounds like he might be more likely to return in Week 17.

Payne suffered a back injury in practice last Friday. He was ruled questionable but he still played against the New Orleans Saints. He should be able to suit up again this weekend.

Chinn suffered a concussion in Week 15. It remains to be seen if he’ll be cleared to play on Sunday but his limited status early in the week suggests he has a chance to suit up. Chinn’s absence would be a significant loss for the Commanders’ defense; the starting safety ranks second on their team in total tackles (93).

McLaurin, Luvu, and Ferrell were all listed with rest designations. They should be ready to play.
