Eagles open Bryce Huff’s practice window to return from injured reserve

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced two roster moves on Wednesday morning. An overview:

  • DE Bryce Huff’s 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve was opened.
  • TE Kevin Foelsch was signed to the practice squad.

Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.

Huff suffered a wrist injury in pregame warmups prior to the Eagles’ Week 9 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played two games with a cast on his left hand before the Eagles placed him on injured reserve prior to Week 12.

Now that Huff has missed four games, he’s eligible to be activated from IR. It’s not yet clear if he’s ready to play as soon as Week 16 or if he’ll need more of a ramp up period. But that he’s able to return to practice in some capacity is certainly a step in the right direction.

Relative to the expectations that come with signing a three-year contract worth $51.1 million, Huff’s been a disappointment for the Eagles thus far. He only has 2.5 sacks, three TFLs, and four quarterback hits in 10 games played.

But perhaps there’s hope for Huff to be better?

At the very least, Huff’s return allows the Eagles to expand their current three-man edge rusher rotation (Nolan Smith, Josh Sweat, Jalyx Hunt) to four players. He’s a preferable option to Charles Harris, who’s barely played since arriving in Philly. Harris is a logical candidate to be waived to open a roster spot for Huff once the latter is ready to play.

We’ll be paying attention to how Huff is listed on the injury report this week.

KEVIN FOELSCH

Here’s a timeline of Foelsch’s involvement in Eagles transactions:

August 8 — Claimed off waivers from the New York Jets
August 27 — Waived
September 1 — Signed to the practice squad
September 3 — Released
September 12 — Signed to the practice squad
September 18 — Released

The undrafted rookie tight end is now back for another stint in Philly.

The Eagles currently have three tight ends on their active roster: Grant Calcaterra, C.J. Uzomah, and E.J. Jenkins. Dallas Goedert is on injured reserve and isn’t eligible to play until Week 18 at the earliest.
