Eagles roster news: 3 moves announced ahead of Giants game

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced three roster moves ahead of their Week 18 home game against the New York Giants. An overview:

  • TE Dallas Goedert was activated from injured reserve to the active roster.
  • EDGE Charles Harris and LB Dallas Gant were temporarily elevated from the practice squad.

Note: teams can temporarily promote practice squad players up to three times each in the regular season and an unlimited number of times in the postseason.

Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.

DALLAS GOEDERT

The Eagles had an open roster spot after waiving C.J. Uzomah earlier this week. It’s a little surprising they chose to fill it by activating Goedert ahead of this meaningless game where key starters will be resting.

Perhaps the Eagles want to get Goedert a little bit of action after he missed four weeks due to a knee injury? Can’t imagine we’ll see him play too much, though.

Maybe it was just about making a move that was going to be made eventually anyway.

Regardless, the Eagles are glad to have Goedert back on the roster.

CHARLES HARRIS

Harris returned to the Eagles earlier this week by signing to their practice squad after getting waived from the roster last weekend. I’m guessing Josh Sweat and Nolan Smith won’t play much, if at all, against the Giants. And so that leaves the Eagles with three edge rushers: Jalyx Hunt, Bryce Huff, and now Harris.

DALLAS GANT

The Eagles previously elevated Gant last weekend. With Zack Baun and Nakobe Dean unlikely to play, the Eagles will have three off-ball linebackers: Oren Burks, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., and Gant. Gant can also help out on special teams.
