All signs point to an end of Aaron Rodgers’ tenure with the New York Jets. In what should have been the start of a turnaround of the Jets’ fortunes under Aaron Rodgers—it’s all set to move on without him. Failing to deliver what was expected of him in his only season as a starter for Gang Green. The Jets have had enough of Rodgers trying to steer their ship out of the wreckage of last season. With a new regime in place, Rodgers is probably counting on his last days as a New Yorker.
See, the Jets have gone for a complete revamp at the top. They have brought in Lions DC Aaron Glenn as their new head coach, finally replacing Robert Saleh, who was sacked mid-season. Joining Glenn as a first-time head coach is Darren Mougey, a first-time GM. Then, there are more newbies in OC Tanner Engstrand, who joins Glenn’s staff after serving as the Lions passing game coordinator last season. So, with all the new faces coming to East Rutherford. NFL insider Jordan Schultz has an “overwhelming belief” that isn’t news to Rodgers.
Schultz thinks the Jets are unlikely to move forward with Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback in 2025. The anticipation in the building is that a fresh start will take place, and a resolution for both parties is expected sooner rather than later. See, this decision to move on from Rodgers would create a few problems for the Jets. One that stands out the most is the whopping $49M dead cap hit they will eat up in 2025, as per Over the Cap estimations.

Well, this decision, which probably came from Glenn and Co., was kind of teased by their owner, Woody Johnson, last month. “Aaron’s a talent, for sure. He’s a Hall of Famer..I’m not going to voice my opinion. That’s up to them,” Johnson said, referring to the new regime in place. With that being said, Rodgers also had a similar take when he was asked about his future in January, “I think everybody understands that it’s going to come down to a GM and a coach and myself and whether we all want to do a dance together or if it’s not in the cards.”
Considering the current state of affairs at Florham Park, Rodgers will probably not return in green and white next season. And to make matters worse, it seems they are already being urged to target someone who has a bit of a history with Glenn.

Jets expected to replace Aaron Rodgers with former Aaron Glenn associate
It might just be a matter of time before Rodgers is sent packing out of New York. Although it seems his bags are already packed, the final decision is yet to come. And while we wait for what’s gonna happen with Rodgers. Justin Melo of the Draft Network has a suggestion for the Jets that he feels could fit them perfectly. “The Jets must focus on rebuilding from within throughout Glenn’s first campaign. New general manager Darren Mougey is aligned with Glenn, who spent a season with Winston in New Orleans (2020). The Jets need to do some soul-searching, and Winston would be an ideal candidate to simply get them through a recharging 2o25 season.” While this suggestion looks good on paper, considering Winston’s 10-year journey in the league, his last season still raises questions about his capabilities.
Let’s just say it was a roller coaster ride for Jameis Winston in Cleveland. After the Browns lost Deshaun Watson to his second ACL, Winston was handed the keys to the offense. And in those 12 games, he threw 13 TDs and a whopping 12 interceptions. So, those numbers could still be a problem for the Jets. Or there’s another way for the Jets to replace Aaron Rodgers.

Make no mistake, because of their poor 5-12 season. The Jets do have a No.7 overall pick in their pocket. Maybe they could pick someone out of college and allow him to become the face of the rebuild. Well, right now, everything is just ifs and buts. But the suggestions are on the Jets table. All they need to do is make the right decision. Otherwise, it will just be another season of misery for the Jets Nation.
