As Davante Adams continues to wait for a resolution to his trade standoff with the Las Vegas Raiders, two AFC contenders are paying attention to the situation with the three-time All-Pro wide receiver.
On the latest episode of the Scoop City podcast (starts at 5:30 mark), The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported the Kansas City Chiefs are going to “monitor” talks for Adams, and the Buffalo Bills are “keeping an eye” on things with the Raiders.
Russini previously reported Adams’ preference is to be dealt to the New York Jets and reunite with Aaron Rodgers, with the New Orleans Saints also potentially involved in the situation.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported on Tuesday that Adams informed the Raiders his preference was to be traded, but nothing was imminent.
Rapoport added on Thursday that even though Adams’ preference is to play for the Jets, he is “open” to several other teams. The Saints, Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys were cited as clubs that have either inquired about Adams or that he would like to play for.
The Chiefs find themselves in need of a wide receiver, at least for the short term. Rashee Rice was placed on injured reserve on Thursday due to a knee injury, keeping him out for a minimum of four games.
Head coach Andy Reid said the extent of Rice’s injury is still uncertain due to swelling in his knee, so they have to wait for it to go down before making a full evaluation.
Buffalo is off to a 3-1 start without an obvious go-to wide receiver, but Sunday’s loss to the Ravens may have exposed some flaws with this current group. Josh Allen finished 8-of-17 for 50 yards against man coverage.
The situation is more complex than simply trying to trade for Adams. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell noted he is owed about $13.2 million for the remainder of this season, plus salaries of $35.6 million in 2025 and 2026.
Adams has no more guaranteed money on his deal after this season, so he could end up being a rental for any team. There’s also a possibility an acquiring team adjusts his contract to bring down those future salaries, while also guaranteeing him money beyond 2024.
A hamstring injury kept Adams out for the Raiders’ Week 4 game against the Cleveland Browns. He hasn’t practiced this week leading up to Sunday’s matchup with the Denver Broncos.
In three starts this season, Adams has 18 receptions for 209 yards and one touchdown.
