Jack Della Maddalena excites fans by spreading rumor he’ll fight ‘the greatest welterweight of all time’ at UFC 312

Jack Della Maddalena has suggested he’s got a fight for UFC 312.

Last week, it was confirmed that MMA’s premier promotion is heading down under for a pay-per-view event at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia, on February 9.

No fights have been made official for the card yet, but a middleweight title rematch between Dricus du Plessis and Sean Strickland is expected to headline.

As one of the UFC’s biggest Aussie stars, Della Maddalena always seemed sure to fight at UFC 312, but now he’s seemingly confirmed his involvement with a social media post.

Jack Della Maddalena vs Kamaru Usman set for UFC 312?

On Monday, the surging welterweight contender shared a report to his Instagram story claiming that a fight between him and former 170lb king Kamaru Usman had been ‘verbally agreed’ for UFC 312.

It read: “BREAKING NEWS. Kamaru Usman vs JackDella Maddalena is verbally agreed for #UFC312 in Sydney, Australia.”

Maddalena didn’t add a caption or do anything but reshare the report.

Right now, it’s unclear if that fight is in the works. Still, that hasn’t stopped MMA fans from getting excited about the 28-year-old facing the man Dana White has repeatedly called ‘the greatest welterweight of all time’ ahead of Georges St-Pierre.

One person tweeted: “Yessss.”

Another said: “Please.”

A third person added: “If true would love to see Usman and Izzy on the same card.”

Someone else predicted: “Jack wins.”

Jack Della Maddalena could fight at the last UFC Australia card

Della Maddalena lost his first two pro MMA fights, but since then he’s won 17 on the bounce and recorded big victories over top contenders Gilbert Burns and Kevin Holland.

The #4 ranked welterweight was hoping to compete in a title eliminator at UFC 305, which took place in Perth, Australia, on August 5, but he was forced off the card after complications arose with an injury he suffered against Burns at UFC 299.

Della Maddalena had a surgery that led to him getting a grim arm infection.

‘JDM’ had two more operations to sort out the scary situation.

“Had surgery on my arm one week after [UFC 299],” Della Maddalena wrote on Instagram in May. “Ten days later my wound had began splitting, which was indicative of infection.

“Went in for surgery 2 as believed to be infection present, bone cleaned, plate replaced, stayed in hospital for nine days on IV antibiotics then moved to oral antibiotics.

“Thought the infection was under control, the wound itself had a couple of abscesses pop up over a five-week period which had been cut and drained which had bacteria present.

“Unfortunately, this means I won’t be competing at UFC 305 in Perth. Which is a tough pill to swallow. At the moment I am focused on recovery, ridding my body of infection and allowing the bone to mend.

“Planning to get my arm back to 100 percent, which if all goes well will be in 12 weeks’ time. I am still motivated to compete before the year’s end in the fight I believe is the toughest and makes the most sense.”
