She has dedicated over a decade to her role as a pharmacy specialist at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. In this capacity, she plays a crucial role in ensuring that patients transition smoothly from hospital to home by managing their medication regimens and addressing social determinants that may affect health outcomes.
Dr. Reist’s career began at Mercy Medical Center, where she served in various roles, from a pharmacy intern to the director of pharmacy services, over a span of nearly three decades. Her tenure at Mercy Medical Center laid the foundation for her expertise in long-term care and clinical coordination. In 2009, she transitioned to Main Healthcare Pharmacy as a long-term care pharmacy manager and consultant pharmacist before moving to her current position at the University of Iowa Health Care in 2013. Among her duties there, she also serves as a faculty mentor for the Upstream Initiative, further showcasing her commitment to health care education and patient care.
To remain aware of developments in the field, Dr. Reist has maintained her involvement in various organizations, including the Linn County Pharmacy Association, the Iowa Pharmacy Association, the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, the American Pharmacists Association, and the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists. Her election as president of the Iowa State Pharmacy Association stands out as one of her proudest achievements, highlighting her dedication to advancing the pharmacy profession and mentoring future pharmacists.
Dr. Reist’s academic background has been instrumental in her success. With a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and the University of Florida, respectively, her education has provided her with both the knowledge and compassion necessary to treat patients and colleagues with utmost care, viewing them as extended family members.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Reist has been recognized with numerous awards for her contributions to health care and patient education, including her involvement in a CMMI Grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Ben Pardini Interdisciplinary Teaching Award, multiple University of Iowa Pharmacy Preceptor Awards, and several other acknowledgments of her excellence in health care education and service, including as Hospital Pharmacist of the Year.
In her personal life, Dr. Reist is deeply committed to community service and enjoys engaging in activities that enrich her community, such as working with dementia advocacy organizations and volunteering at her church. She finds joy in gardening, cooking, canning, and sharing food with others. Looking ahead, Ms. Reist anticipates retiring within the next decade but remains passionate about impacting patients’ lives through her work in transitional care pharmacy.
